The House of Representatives has just approved N61.55 billion as the 2023 Supplementary budget of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This is not just some spare change; it’s on top of the N579.69 billion already budgeted for the FCT in 2023.
And they’ve got just 30 days to spend the money because the fiscal year wraps up on December 31.
In the grand expense plan, N12.9 billion is reserved for settling the salaries and wages of workers (that’s the recurrent expenditure), while N48.65 billion is all set to fuel the capital expenditure dream of Minister Nyesom Wike.
From the recurrent expenditure budget, the FCT Administration staff are getting a sweet N2.2 billion. The Human Resources Management Department will collect N3.3 billion, the Information and Communication, N2.8 billion, and the Legal Secretariat, N1 billion.
The Facilities Maintenance and Management Department will get a share of N1.6 billion. And the Abuja Environmental Protection Board and the Satellite Towns Development Department? They’re scoring N1.5 million and N500 million respectively. You know, just a little extra for their troubles.
But the lion’s share goes to the capital projects. Engineering Services (FCDA) will grab N30.54 billion, Public Building (FCDA) will get N15.11 billion, and the Bus Rapid Transit and Transport Regulations (BRT&TR), N3 billion.
So, there you have it – the grand plan on how the FCT is going to spend N61.55 billion in just 30 days.
Buckle up; it’s going to be a wild spending spree!
